The future of surgery has arrived – the Da Vinci robot

The future of surgery has arrived at Western Heath today with the arrival of the daVInci Xi Robotic Surgical System at Footscray Hospital, in preparation for the commencement of robotic-assisted operating in March 2024!

The robot is currently downstairs, next to the Mavis Mitchell room, where it will be for the next couple of weeks whilst we prepare for our first cases. We will be running drop-in sessions for all staff to come and see the robot in simulation mode over the next couple of weeks, prior to conducting training sessions for our theatre nurses, techs and junior medical staff before the robot is delivered into the theatre suite.

This is the result of a mammoth effort by the division of surgery and peri-operative services and brings us in line with other state of the art metro hospitals offering robotic-assisted surgery.

There will be plenty of opportunities to see the robot in action and begin your robotic surgical career. Watch this space!
